Moon and star earrings

These earrings were created from silver left over from other projects. Initially the scrap silver was melted down into balls and then repeatedly put through a rolling mill until the desired thickness and diameter was achieved. The respective moon and star shapes were cut out. The cratered appearance on the moon’s surface was achieved using… Continue reading Moon and star earrings

Textured earrings

Circles of sterling silver were put through a rolling mill while sandwiched between sheets of sandpaper so that they were textured on both sides. Laminated inlay earrings

Three more earring sets

I received a request for three multi-coloured round earring sets using different combinations of yellow, orange, pink and red opal glass. The results using the final combinations chosen by the client are shown below. The earrings are about 21.5 mm diameter. Bails are ear hooks are sterling silver.

The technique for making and attaching the silver balls is known as granulation. Small pieces… Continue reading Commission – earring and pendant set

Recent commission – two earring sets

In April I was commissioned to make two sets of earrings. The request was for yellow/blue and orange/blue circular earrings. In each case opalescent glass was used. The yellow and orange glass react with the blue glass when fired in a kiln resulting in the dark line between the colours in both sets of earrings.… Continue reading Recent commission – two earring sets
